The Study House
The Client was looking to refurbish their Early Edwardian semi detached house in South West London. The building was largely modernised but had some beautiful original features that the design proposals look to celebrate and create complimentary details and spaces.
he double height stairwell and feature staircase winds up to the new loft level, folding to become a timber presence throughout the house. A basement study sits nestled in the belly of the building in a timber lined room with double height atrium space above. The design focus was to create new routes through the ground floor plan, linking a side extension with a basement and loft extension.
Horizontal views across the building as well as along the length of the building enhance the legibility of the spaces and create ever changing moments as you move from room to room. Natural light is a focus to feed it into the basement rooms, with the form of the side extension mirroring the gable roof of the existing garage to reflect the existing street elevation.
