This handsome large detached arts and crafts house is set within a mature garden. The house has not been modernised for over 40 years and the existing garage extensions cause a poor damp and dark circulation route across the building.
The Client wanted to refurbish the existing building reconfiguring the ground floor space and replacing the existing garage with a connected office and studio space. The design approach was to create a new building that was elevated to connect more directly with the existing building. To try and minimise its impact on the landscape we looked to disguise the building by making it read as a beautiful canopy set within the landscape - all roof and no walls
