The Barnes House 3, Barnes, London

Designed, built and fitted in-house, this project weaves a continuous oak story throughout the house, helping to link rooms and floors together. Inspired by the owner's time spent in Scandinavia, the joinery is simple in form, rich in texture, and warm in colour.

The key to ground floor spaces in a collection of inbuilt oak storage; starting with low level drawers in the living spaces, these then wrap around the brick piers and fireplace working as both seating and storage.

The drawers finish at an oak lined doorway, which signifies the transition between old and new spaces. The drawers become narrow oak cupboards, which serve as an extension of the kitchen storage. Moving towards the garden these blend into bench seating, which hide more storage and a discreet cat-flap. Above this, exposed oak rafters give texture and help to create a cosy seating space.

The kitchen contrasts the furniture, with dusky pink doors and bespoke recessed oak handles. The interiors are all finished with real oak veneers and feature pantry units, secret cutlery drawers and hidden waste storage.

The bedrooms both have customised wardrobes, designed to work with the client's specific needs. Both of these are finished in the same style as the kitchen doors, bringing more continuity to the house. Upstairs in the loft, we took advantage of the natural awkward spaces to design recessed shelving and storage within the eaves.

The Master Bathroom utilised a calming palette of neutral terrazzo and ceramics, and is complemented with an oak vanity unit, adding a touch of warmth to the room.
